The global shortage of semiconductor chips affects the technology industry and printer manufacturers

GM Technology’s production of reset chips enables it to maintain its stock level despite the chip shortage situation

The low global production of semiconductor chips in the international market of the technology industry is on the way to becoming one of the most relevant economic phenomena of the year along with the problem of inflation.

The main reason that we are experiencing this shortage of chip production is the low investment by manufacturing plants in new technologies to make more advanced chips with a centralized production mainly in China. Another cause is the increase in demand for technological products during the pandemic or the lack of a powerful industry that needs a significant investment to grow and that requires qualified personnel.

One of the large sectors that is slowing down as a result of the global chip crisis is 5G smartphones that require larger amounts of chips and integrated circuits. This example, together with the high demand for the product, is generating a reduction in the rate of evolution of 5G technology.

This panorama also affects mainly the sector of manufacturers of cars, game consoles or household appliances that cannot maintain their production due to the lack of chips, but it is also reducing the production of the main manufacturers of printers and consumables.

The world’s third-largest chipmaker that makes electronic devices for Ford, Dyson, Ocado or HP forecasts that “With such strong demand, the expectation is mid-to-late 2022 depending on the commodity. Some expect the shortage to last until 2023, “according to the Financial Times”

Parallel to the crisis of the global shortage of chips is also joined by the global crisis of maritime transport, especially from Asia, the USA and the EU.

The shipping sector has been stalling since the ship that jammed the Suez Canal in March and cargo piles up in southern China, while the fallout spreads to ports around the world.

This has become a threat to international maritime logistics and represents a bottleneck for transport, which is more expensive than ever and influences global inflation.

At GM Technology, we work with chips and reset technology that allows you to reuse original chips. In today’s market almost all toner cartridges come equipped with a smart chip. True to our reuse focused approach that we developed, our own smart chip reset device that based on a credit system can reset a number of OEM chips allowing them to be reused. With the use of our M-PROG device we can reconfigure the factory state OEM chips. We can offer chip reset services, as well as sell the device itself.

Furthermore, M-PROG is a device developed at GM Technology and marketed throughout the world. Some of the advantages of using M-PROG instead of replacing chips are:

  1. No transport costs
  2. No chip removal
  3. Low cost
  4. Recycle instead of destroy
